Grove School - Student Activities Center
Madison, Connecticut
• 6,000 square feet
The creation of this building is a long time vision of the school President Richard Chorney. To achieve this goal, he commissioned the design of a gathering space.
The campus is set on 90 acres of wooded land. A small section of this property is known as “the grove” which students have used as an outdoor gathering space since 1934.
The architectural concept was to recreate the experience of the grove. The building’s structure is composed of a series of canopies that create a single cohesive interior space. The enclosure is a diamond pattern built of colorful glass and curtain wall that evokes the motion of falling leaves.
Within the building the students will engage in 3D art, fine arts, theatrical set making, and culinary education. A community space for student collaboration and an outdoor performance area are provided to enhance the learning experience.
