Career focused academy model schools have been an effective means to create more personalized and experiential learning for students that offer both academic choice and greater levels of preparation for 21st century post-secondary success.
An existing 254,000 square foot building, formerly occupied by an international corporation, has been transformed into Danbury High School – West hosting 1,400 students. The school works in conjunction with Danbury High School serving grades 10-12. The new academy includes innovative learning for Biomedical Science, Sports and Human Performance, Allied Health Services CNA/EMT, Medical Technology and Engineering, Investment and Finance, Business and Entrepreneurship, Clean and Renewable Energy, Green Design and Environmental Steward ship and Sustainable Food and Living Systems. The design incorporates firsthand learning opportunities including a greenhouse, an ambulance simulator, anatomage tables, 3D printers and much more. An 11,940 square foot addition includes a gymnasium with retractable bleachers and a platform.
As part of the design, the Danbury Board of Education offices are within a portion of the building. The offices, now all housed under one roof, include the BOE’s Board Room which is dedicated to the long standing BOE Chairperson.
