Friar Architecture Studio at Talcott Notch - "Treehouse"
Farmington, Connecticut
• 7,800 square feet
• Three stories, architectural studio, collaboration space and rooftop deck
• Renovation of existing office building
Drawing inspiration from the natural Talcott Forest landscape, the building was reclad in vertical cedar planks and natural cedar shakes to reflect the wooded area. Use of mixed finishes provides character and warmth, replacing the previously blank canvas. An entry trellis creates an inviting focal point and interesting play of light on sunny days. Large overhangs accentuate the building’s form and provide additional shading.
The open design studio encourages interaction, while a break-out collaboration space allows for brainstorming and design charrettes. Light fills the space, from the entry and conference rooms to the private offices, lunch/presentation area and game room. Outside, a large deck off the third floor provides a welcoming exterior venue for casual gatherings and company events.
